Fans Think GTA V’s Michael Has Been Found In Red Dead Redemption 2

I’ve put a good amount of time into Red Dead Redemption 2 at this point, and I’m honestly surprised by the lack of GTA V references so far.

You’d think Rockstar would hide some kind of tribute to their biggest ever game in their second biggest game. I mean, I’m still expecting to run into some crazy outlaw descendant of Steven Ogg’s Trevor, if I’m being honest.

As it turns out, there is at least one very subtle reference to GTA V tucked away in Red Dead Redemption 2 – one dedicated to loveable criminal and unwitting FBI stooge Michael De Santa.

Eagle-eyed fans were first put on the path towards this very easy to miss Easter egg when they spotted Ned Luke’s name during the end credits of Red Dead Redemption 2. Ned Luke is, of course, the actor behind Michael.

Luke responded on Twitter by confirming that he is indeed hiding somewhere in the game, but that Rockstar took out the voice work that he’d done, leaving only his “character work”. He himself has speculated this is because Rockstar didn’t want people recognising him, as it might take away from the game’s impeccable sense of immersion.

Still, he issued gamers with a challenge to find him in-game.

Obviously it didn’t take very long for the internet to respond to this challenge, and a bunch of people think they’ve discovered Michael hiding away – as a member of the no-good O’Driscoll gang, no less.

While the resemblance between this particular O’Driscoll and Michael De Santa is certainly striking, Luke shot down that particular theory himself on Twitter.

Some fans have speculated that Luke could be playing the mysterious and elusive Gavin, while others believe he’s just in the game somewhere as a random generic NPC. For now, it looks like his location and identity will remain a mystery.

Wherever Michael/Ned Luke might be hiding in Red Dead Redemption 2, be sure to tweet him if you think you’ve spotted him. Odds are he’ll let you know if you’ve gotten it right or wrong.
