Final Fantasy 15 Director Reveals Major Reason Behind Delay

Final Fantasy 15 director Hajime Tabata has once again been speaking about the decision to delay the (very) long-gestating game from September to November.

Speaking with Famitsu, (and translated by Kotaku), Tabata cited a number of reasons, including ‘various bugs’, and the frame rate note holding to its 30 FPS target as consistently as the team would like.

Tabata explained:

For starters, the optimization isn’t [yet] sufficient. There are also various bugs as well as places in which the frame rate drops. There are still of number of bugs like characters floating unnaturally in the air or appearing all strange [and glitchy]. We are going to fix the issues,” Tabata assured, adding, “Another thing is that I also wanted to refine the game balance.

While Tabata stressed that the majority of these bugs aren’t game breaking, he and the team just don’t feel comfortable shipping a game that isn’t working as well as it could be, which brings us to the main reason behind the delay.

In short, Tabata is all too aware that not every gamer will have their console connected to the internet, and so the team is very keen to avoid any kind of Day One patch.

Whether or not Final Fantasy 15 will require a patch when it launches on November 29 remains to be seen, but hopefully this extra time is what they need to get it right.
