The Los Angeles Times has reported that the first official trailer for the Assassin’s Creed movie will premiere May 11.
To tide you over while you wait, we’ve also got some fresh images to peep at. Assassin’s Creed is directed by Justin Kurzel, starring X-Men’s Michael Fassbender and Oscar-winner Marion Cotillard.
Fassbender plays two roles in Ubisoft’s timey wimey videogame adaptation. In addition to the modern day Callum Lynch, he’ll also take on the role of Lynch’s 15th Century Spanish Assassin ancestor, Aguillar.
You can get a look at Fassbender as both Lynch and Aguillar below.
While the movie won’t be out till December 21, Kurzel has already been discussing a sequel with the LA Times. Apparently there are “endless” possibilities for where a follow-up could be set.
Previous entries in the franchise have taken players to the likes of the American Colonial era and the French Revolution, so there’s no end of interesting time periods later films could explore.
All past settings are linked with a modern day component thanks to Animus, a technology in the games and film that allows characters to access the memories of their ancestors.
It’s no secret that movies based on videogames aren’t often (if ever) great, so hopefully Assassin’s Creed gets it right.
At any rate, we won’t have to wait long now before the trailer drops and we can finally properly judge how it’s shaping up.
