The great battle royale of our time wages on, and it looks like current king Fortnite is possibly lifting some nifty ideas from spunky newcomer, Apex Legends.

During a recent AMA, Fortnite devs Epic said that they were exploring the possibility of adding a respawn system to the game. The way they spoke about it made it seem like it might be some way off, but some super sleuth players think they might have found evidence that it’s much closer than we thought.

We’ve been considering this mechanic for a while and have been exploring it. Want to make sure we give it the time it needs and fully understand its impact on the game as a whole. Look for further updates during Season 8.

Since Season 8 hit, players have spotted a mysterious van in the game map, and some players believe this is where the respawn mechanic will take effect. You can take a look at the van yourself by going into Playground Mode and spawning over Retail Row (be aware that if you get too close to the van it will despawn).

All very interesting I hear you cry, but what’s this got to do with respawning? Well, firstly, shut up. I’m about to tell you. Secondly, Fortnite leaker FortTory did some digging around in the game’s files and found that the name attached to it is ‘Second Chance Van’. Respawn theory intensifies.

Apparently, the way players will activate this is by picking up a card from a fallen comrade and, logic would dictate that you take it over to the van to give them a second chance. Sound familiar? It should, because it’s also the exact same thing you do to revive teammates in Apex Legends.

Hoh boy, here we go.

When you add this to the recent ping system Fortnite incorporated that is suspiciously like the one you use in Apex, we’re building a picture of brewing battle royale war. The only question that remains is; whose team are you on?
