Epic GamesEpic Games has announced details of the first official Fortnite World Cup, including an eye-watering $100 million prize pool for the 2019 season.
Obviously that particular filthy large sum of cash won’t go to any one player, but will be split among several prizes. The largest single cash reward will be $3 million, which I’m sure we can all agree os chump change by comparison.
Epic Games According to the official Fortnite website, there are gonna be 10 weekly open qualifiers running from April 8 to June 16. Each week Epic Games will be dishing out a solid $1 million to the top players from these qualifying matches.
After that, the top 100 Solo players and top 50 Duos will be taking part in the World Cup Finals in New York City, which runs from July 26-28 and has a $30 million prize pool.
Each player will win at least $50,000, with the ultimate Solo World Champ taking home $3 million. After the Finals, $1 million in weekly tournaments will continue to be dished out till the end of the year.
According to the official Fortnite site:
We will continue to award $1,000,000 in cash tournaments weekly through the end of this year. These tournaments will feature a wider variety of modes and formats to open up the competitive playing field. We will also provide tournament tools and prizing to select partners to better serve competitive Fortnite in more countries and regions around the world on our way to awarding the full $100,000,000 in 2019.
So, how do you get involved in this glorious sport? Well, Epic makes it clear that you need to be at least 13 years old, and anyone and between 13 and 17 need the permission of a parent or guardian.
It was also made clear that any account with a previous violation or offence will not be eligible to join, so if you’ve ever been reported for cheating or harassing players, that’s you done.
