The latest cover for Game Informer magazine has given us a cheeky look at the cast for the upcoming Gears of War 4. While it’s an entirely new group of characters, it looks like we will be able to play as the son of Marcus Fenix, a previous Gears of War protagonist.
Gears of War 4 is set around 25 years after 3, so it makes sense that we’d be getting a new batch of heroes. Nobody wants to control an aged Marcus Fenix as he hobbles from gunfire, after all. Or maybe they do.
Marcus’ son is called JD Fenix, and looks every inch your typical grizzled solider. He’s the one in the middle of the pic, if you weren’t sure.
JD will be voiced by Liam McIntyre, who recently appeared in The Flash TV show. His character is a young idealist who went missing after a top secret incident. Apparently we’ll find out more about said incident as we progress through the game.
JD will be joined on his adventure by Kait Diaz and Delmont “Del” Walker, played by Laura Bailey and Eugene Byrd. Kait is a tough as nails survivor who was raised outside of the walled cities that protect most of humanity, and Delmont is JD’s BFF. Not quite as impressive there, Del.
McIntyre told Game Informer:
It’s kind of terrifying, because I get to be the lead in a new era of Gears, which is unbelievable, amazing, and exciting. I’m the legacy, because my dad is Marcus Fenix. JD’s a soldier and a bit of a freedom fighter, and in his heart he’s a bit of a renegade. He’s different from Marcus, but he’s still that heroic archetype.
Sounds pretty interesting. We’ll get to find out much more about this trio of characters when Gears of War 4 releases later this year.
