Gears Of War Movie Confirmed To Be Back Underway

By :

Good news, everyone: A Gears of War movie is officially on the way (again), as confirmed by The Coalition’s Rod Fergusson during a Gears 4 livestream.

The project is in very, very early stages of development. All we really know at this stage is that it’ll be a collaboration between Microsoft and Universal.

As such, they aren’t quite ready to announce a director or writer on the project.

However, Fergusson did share some vague details in an attempt to paint a picture. He revealed that the movie won’t necessarily be a straight copy of any one Gears of War game.

Instead, he simply teased that they plan to make the best Gears of War film that they can – taking inspiration and characters from across all the games.

Fergusson actually discussed a potential movie back in July explaining:

There is some stuff going on that I can’t talk about today, but I’ll possibly be talking about [that stuff] very soon. I’m very excited about what the future holds.

It might not be worth getting your hopes up just yet, of course. New Line Cinema purchased the rights to make a movie based on the game all the way back in 2007, but it never quite got off the ground.

Still, between the new Tomb Raider, Assassin’s Creed, rumoured Nintendo movies and an adaptation of The Division, we could well be in for a deluge of videogame characters on the big screen.
