Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 launches today (October 12), and a strange new promotion has been announced that will allow hungry gamers to get the game for free – with a side of fish and chips.
It’s CoD and COD and chips. Do you get it? I don’t.
Harry Ramsden’s – a UK based purveyor of battered aquatic life and fried potato matter – is running this odd promotion across the weekend over three stores in Manchester, Birmingham, and London Victoria “while stocks last”.
The deal is that you pay £7.99 for some cod and chips through the Uber Eats app, and you’ll get a digital copy of Black Ops 4 thrown in. I am honest to God still trying to work out why this is happening, but I guess we can’t look a fish horse in the mouth, or whatever the saying is.
As it transpires, you don’t have to get a cod to get CoD – any other fish will do. But Haddock and CoD and chips just doesn’t have the same knee-slappingly hilarious ring to it, does it?
I wish there was more I could tell you about the promotion, I really do, but that’s pretty much it. If you want chips for tea with a side of Black Ops 4 action, then get on this later. Though given that BLOPS 4 is one of the biggest releases of the year and it’s being offered for less than a tenner, I doubt stocks are gonna last very long.
Hopefully this inspires a new wave of Uber Eats/video game promotions. Who wouldn’t want an Italian meal delivered with the next Mario game for example, or perhaps a Chinese with… um, *checks notes* Tekken. We could call it Tekaway, maybe?
I’ll be waiting by the phone for someone to take me up on either of those ideas. We’ll be rich.
