The Nintendo 64 game GoldenEye 007 is getting an incredible remake by GoldenZen.
There’ll be a lot of people out there who have never seen GoldenEye, and even more who have never played a Nintendo 64, but those who were old enough to appreciate the movie and the gaming device will likely remember GoldenEye 007.
The first-player shooting game allowed you to step into the shoes of James Bond as he fights to prevent a criminal syndicate from using a satellite weapon against London to cause a global financial meltdown.
It’s the perfect escape from the mundane reality of everyday life, and there’s no doubt it would be just as much fun to play today as it was when it first came out – over two decades ago.
Feel old yet?
GoldenZen are working on a remake of the beloved game which is expected to be released in 2022. The makers have titled the game GoldenEye 25 in honour of the original’s 25th anniversary, which will also fall in 2022.
The makers shared some footage of the remake on YouTube – check it out here:
The creators have kept all the good things about the game while updating its graphics with the Unreal Engine 4.
On the GoldenZen YouTube, the makers explained:
The Mission of GoldenEye 25 is to port and remaster GoldenEye 007 for the N64 to the Unreal Engine by GE64’s 25th anniversary in August 2022!
As for the soundtrack I’m trying to do my best to continue where Eric Serra’s epic material had ended.
The GE25 soundtrack will not contain straight cover songs of the original N64 game but tracks more reminding of the actual movie score to make for an immersive single player movie experience.
With four years still to go until the game’s release, excited gamers have to hope Nintendo don’t burst our GoldenEye bubble. The remake won’t be a Nintendo game, meaning the company could oppose its creation if they really wanted.
But let’s just hope that doesn’t happen!
The original game was extra special in its time due to its multiplayer mode, which allowed you and up to three friends to battle it out in split-screen ‘deathmatch’ mode.
There was nothing quite like coming home from school with your mates and engaging in a deathmatch. Soon you could relive those days and de-stress after a long day at work with some brutal killing.
Let’s hope the remake of the game survives until its release – if not, you might have to start hunting in your parents’ attack to find that abandoned N64 and original GoldenEye 007 cartridge to fulfil your desires to be Bond.
