Great News For The Star Wars Battlefront 3 Fan Remake

You may have heard about the fan project to create a “true” sequel to Star Wars Battlefront 1 and 2. Well, anyone still trying not to get their hopes up over Star Wars Battlefront 3 can now let their guard down a little.

Frontwire – the developer behind this ambitious project – have announced that Valve has agreed to host Star Wars Battlefront 3: Galaxy in Turmoil on Steam.

Considering we were previously told by Frontwire that this might not be possible because of the project’s use of the Star Wars IP, this a massive leap forward.

Frontwire president Tony Fergie Romanelli said in a statement:

It is with great pleasure that as of today I am able to officially announce that Frontwire Studios has officially signed a distribution deal with Steam/Valve for the game Galaxy in Turmoil. After ongoing discussion between Valve representatives and myself, Valve/Steam has agreed to ship Galaxy in Turmoil to its millions of users for FREE.

Despite the fact that Frontwire won’t be charging you a penny to play the game, there’s still every chance that Disney could decide to come and shut the whole thing down – they own Star Wars, after all.

Romanelli doesn’t seem too worried, however:

I’ll be honest–I’ve had mild concerns myself from time to time, however, Valve clearly lacks that same concern. By agreeing to publish Galaxy in Turmoil, Valve is assisting us in growing and ensuring the longevity of the Galaxy in Turmoil project and community as a whole.

There’s even a screenshot teasing Star Wars Battlefront 3 on Steam.Once something has a Steam page, Disney can’t take it away. They just can’t.

I mean, technically they can. But if we all wish really hard, they might just leave it alone.

Star Wars Battlefront 3 runs on Unreal Engine 4, and all classic Battlefront game modes will be available – Frontwire is even creating a new mode designed around competitive play.

Check out a teaser trailer below, just in case the mere prospect of classic (and FREE) Battlefront fun wasn’t enough to entice you.

Meanwhile, EA has confirmed a sequel to 2015’s Star Wars Battlefront. That was fine, but not really the Battlefront we all knew and loved – hence Galaxy in Turmoil.
