There could be a seriously unhappy Christmas in store for millions of gamers as a hacking threat was made.

According to one group, they are planning on taking down both the Xbox Live and Playstation Networks for a week over the festive period.

The group call themselves the Phantom Squad, with the attack known as a distributed denial of service (DDoS).

One tweet said:

No. PSN and Xbox don’t use that money to improve their security.

So until they open their eyes Xbox Live and PSN will remain vulnerable.

Their Twitter account has since been suspended – but the group have promised that the hacking threats will only escalate.

The attack on Xbox Live last Christmas from Lizard Squad caused widespread chaos – and a similar one this year would do the same.
