Showtime’s impending Halo TV series continues to heat up, with Black Mirror and Peaky Blinders alum Otto Bathurst signing up for directorial duties on the new show.

Bringing Bathurst aboard is a strong sign as far as I’m concerned. He actually has the honour of having directed The National Anthem, which was the very first episode of Charlie Brooker’s excellent anthology series Black Mirror.

You know, it’s the one where the PM gets down and dirty with a pig live on air. Classic TV, and perhaps a hint that we might see Master Chief indulge in some hog love when the Halo show airs? No, probably not.

While Bathurst has done great work on Black Mirror and Peaky Blinders, I do have to point out that he did also unfortunately direct the recent Robin Hood reboot starring Jamie Foxx and Taron Egerton.

If you haven’t seen it… well, I wouldn’t be that surprised. The film was something of a critical and commercial flop, but it was Bathusrt’s debut feature flick, so who knows how much of it was down to him and what was studio meddling?

The Halo series is being overseen by Kyle Killen (Lone Star, Awake). We still don’t know too much about the show, but it has been confirmed that Master Chief will be the focus, and that we’ll see various exotic planets and locations as the series goes on. There’s no word on casting yet though.

There’s no air date for the 10 episode series at the time of writing, but the consensus seems to be that Showtime is aiming to have it ready for sometime in 2020.
