Capcom has finally officially confirmed the Resident Evil 2 “one shot” demo, after its existence was leaked on the Xbox store back in December.

The good news is that the official press release confirmed that the demo – coming January 11 – would also be available PlayStation 4 and PC. This was expected of course, but it’s good to know for sure after the Xbox leak sparked speculation the demo would be exclusive to Microsoft’s console.

So how exactly does this “one shot” demo work? The title originally caused some confusion, with many fearing that if you die even once in the demo you’ll be locked out for good.

The good news is that you can die as much as you want in the demo. The bad news is that once the 30 minute timer is up, you won’t be able to play it again until you pick up the full game.

If nothing else, this implies Capcom are so confident about the quality of this game that they believe you’ll only need to play it once for half an hour to get hooked. Based on the preview builds I’ve briefly played, I’d be inclined to agree that 30 minutes is all you need.

If you can beat the mission objective within the time limit, you’ll be treated to an exclusive new trailer for the game. If you fail to get to it in time… well, don’t worry. Someone’s gonna put it on YouTube eventually.

Resident Evil 2 comes to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on January 25.
