It’s been a long drawn-out process, but Hideo Kojima has now officially left Konami and Kojima Productions.

It’s long been known that Hideo Kojima was set to part ways with Konami after nearly three decades of service, but according to a report in The New Yorker, his employment ended on October 9.

The New Yorker report states that Kojima has been slapped with a non-compete clause, meaning he won’t be able to work for any other company – or in any way compete with Konami – until at least December. That’s bad news for fans expecting something sooner, but at least we know he’s free to pursue his own interests after that.

Neither Kojima or Konami have directly commented on the split, but it’s been well documented that the departure hasn’t exactly been amicable.

There have been rumours that Kojima will be working on a game or film with Guillermo Del Toro in the near future, though Del Toro has vowed never to work in video games again. Whatever he does, you can bet it’s going to be just as insane as the Metal Gear series he became so beloved for.
