A modder has commandeered the camera in Mortal Kombat 11 to allow a fascinating glimpse at all manner of bizarre delights and secrets hiding just outside of the reach of where the game’s camera will typically let us go.
I’ve long been fascinated by the idea of “boundary breaking” in video games and getting to see areas or sections that the developers clearly didn’t intend for us to ever see, and Mortal Kombat 11 does not disappoint.
YouTuber DennisNetwork recently uploaded a wonderful series of videos that really dig into the stages of Mortal Kombat 11, and uncovers all kinds of strange bits and bobs. There are even a few secrets in there that NetherRealm must have intended for someone to find. That, or they put some of this stuff in for the lols.
Take, for example, the Tournament stage in which we discover that the audience members who’ve come to watch the brutal, bloody mayhem don’t actually have legs. Presumably Scorpion ripped them off?
There’s also a closer look at the arcade cabinets peppered throughout the stage which play footage of previous Mortal Kombat games. You probably already noticed this of course, but seeing the old footage in so much detail really shows the effort NetherRealm put into these stages – even if they forgot to give the audience members legs.
Check out the deep dive on the Tournament stage below.
Other videos include a look at the gorgeous but bleak Island Ruins, which gives us a close look at the mummified monks as well as the vultures that circle the skies above, and a video exploring the Black Dragon Fight Club, which goes behind the bar and offers a better peek at some of the alcohol on offer.
Of all of these secrets and unintended moments of hilarity, of the best secrets tucked away in any of the stages is easily the Black Dragon gang member who can be seen in the urinal of the Fight Club doing his business.
In case you wondering, NetherRealm did not animate the guy’s package. He’s just holding thin air, because obviously animating visceral decapitations and brutal fatalities is all fine, but rendering a penis would be a step too far.
If you’re weird like me, and you just can’t get enough of exploring every inch of a game’s map to discover what they’ve tucked away, then I strongly recommend you head to DennisNetwork’s channel and check out the rest of his Mortal Kombat stuff.
Spoiler alert: nothing really beats the dude with no wang taking a leak.
