Spider-Man: Far From Home is out now, and finally brings an end to over ten years of Marvel Cinematic Universe adventures. It also happens to be one of the best Spidey movies to date, in my humble opinion.
In fact, the last few years have seen a real return to form for the webhead. Since officially joining the MCU via the charming Tom Holland, we’ve had a a wonderful live-action version of the character, as well as the Oscar-winning Into the Spider-Verse – not to mention the sublime video game Marvel’s Spider-Man, from developer Insomniac.
One lovely touch in Far From Home actually pays a small tribute to Insomniac’s take on the character, and this reference reportedly caused a cinema full of Insomniac staff to burst into applause. Don’t read on if you don’t want to know anything about the film, and would rather spot this particular Easter egg yourself.
Towards the end of the film, Tom Holland’s Spidey is taking a glorious swing through New York City. Mid-swing, he whips out his phone and takes a selfie, striking the exact pose that Peter Parker uses when you use Marvel’s Spider-Man’s own photo mode.
It’s not much, but it’s a lovely touch, and one that clearly meant a lot to the team at Insomniac Games, who worked so hard for so long on the PS4 exclusive hit. Insomniac writer Mary Kenney revealed on Twitter that the entire team, who had taken a work trip to see the movie, cheered their hearts out when they spotted the reference. Good on them.
The Spider-Man love clearly goes both ways between the movie and the game, as Insomniac recently added the two new costumes seen in Far From Home to its game as part of a free update; the revised black and red version of the classic suit, and the black stealth suit, which is surely destined to become known as the Night Monkey suit.
That moment when we ALL burst into applause at the Spider-Man PS4 reference 👏🎉 #SpiderManFarFromHome #SpiderManPS4 https://t.co/EFUKOGeXsr

All in all, this is a wonderful time to be a Spider-Man fan. In our own review, we called Far From Home “the best live-action Spider-Man film to date.” Meanwhile, in my review of Marvel’s Spider-Man, I hailed it as the “finest game starring the wall crawler to date.”
But I mean, if you’ve played it, you’ll know that already. If you haven’t played it – what’s wrong with you?
