Jack Black has finally stopped playing games with the millions of subscribers to his YouTube channel, Jablinksi Games, which has featured very little gaming so far, by…well, playing games.
How’s this for a twist in the anything-but-tenacious narrative of the YouTube gaming channel that could?
In case you missed it, Jablinksi Games was launched towards the end of last year, and Black managed to bag nearly three million subscribers on the back of two brief videos.
He did say he was going to be bigger than PewDiePie, and goddamit, who could make a liar out of such a good egg and beloved comedic actor?
Since, he’s uploaded nine more videos and increased his subs count, all the while with hardly any video game talk of any kind, instead mainly featuring Jack Black just being Jack Black.
More of this for your delectation below. You are welcome:
The channel has continued in much the same manner since, following Black work out, act on set, generally muse about the meaning of life, and hang out with his kids.
Adorable. It even managed to capture the actor accidentally re-creating the Distracted Boyfriend meme thanks to his powerful charisma and disarming influence upon menfolk.
It was awesome – so no complaints from this corner.
But the latest upload to the thus far misleadingly named Jablinksi Games, featuring an intro from YouTuber Ricky Berwick, drifts away from the common pattern which has garnered nearly four million subs with just 11 videos.
Black takes viewers on a journey through his life, including being sick at home and being on the Jumanji sequel’s set. No change there then.
But the School of Rock master apparently found his El Gato and got to work recording. Cue: some superbly entertaining game play.
He fires up 2009’s Brutal Legend, which he stars in, and treats viewers to a little shredding courtesy of Eddie Riggs, the game protagonist based on Black himself and his pick of destiny.
While playing – pretty well – Black breaks down that pesky fourth wall and even chats along with the character he voices, remembering and repeating some aspects of the script in sync with Riggs.
The video also sees Jack presented with a gold YouTube Creator award for reaching over one million subscribers, and he has his sights set on the diamond, which has a threshold of 10 million subs.
Accepting this great accolade, Jack says viewers should ‘look for us to be kicking out the jams all year long’ – a hint at more gameplay? Who can say?
