LucasFilm President Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed that a project related to the Knights of the Old Republic era of Star Wars is currently being discussed, and is possibly even already in development.

At the Star Wars Celebration, MTV News asked Kennedy about Knights of the Old Republic and if LucasFilm has any plans to do something with the beloved RPG series, which takes place around 4,000 years before the formation of the Galactic Empire.

Kennedy said that while she can’t really promise anything right now, they are actively developing “something to look at.” While this doesn’t mean a fully fledged movie or TV series is in development, it does mean such a project is being seriously considered.

She explained:

You know, we talk about that all the time. Yes, we are developing something to look at. Right now I have no idea where things might fall, but we have to be careful that there is a cadence to Star Wars that doesn’t start to feel like too much.

Given LucasFilm doesn’t really anything to do with the video game side of Star Wars, which is handled exclusively by EA, we can probably rule out this project being the Knights of the Old Republic III we all so desperately crave.

With that said, if we are about to get a Knights of the Old Republic movie (or TV show), the chances of a new game surely become that much more likely – that’s just good business sense, right? Corporate synergy, and all that stuff that makes me want to bang my head against a wall.

The next big Star Wars project in gaming land will be the story driven single player adventure Jedi: Fallen Order, which comes to PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 15. Meanwhile, we can expect Episode IX: Rise of Skywalker to arrive in cinemas December 19.
