Mr. Kojima had every intention of being with us tonight but unfortunately he was informed by a lawyer representing Konami just recently that he would not be allowed to travel to tonight’s awards ceremony to accept any awards.

Kojima and Konami have suffered a very nasty – and very public – falling out in 2015, that resulted in Kojima’s name being taken off the Metal Gear Solid V box, highly anticipated horror title Silent Hills to be cancelled, and Kojima Productions to be closed.

Konami have denied that Hideo Kojima has even left the company, though it’s been discovered that the two parted ways in October, with Kojima under a no-compete clause that would see him unable to work on another project until at least mid-December.
