Lara Croft Cast In Tomb Raider Movie And It’s Not Who We Expected

The upcoming Tomb Raider reboot has found its Lara Croft. Turns out it isn’t Star Wars actor Daisey Ridley, as pretty much everyone expected.

Our new big screen Lara Croft is in fact none other than Swedish actor Alicia Vikander, who won an Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for her part in The Danish Girl.

First reports of the casting came from The Hollywood Reporter, and the news has since been shared on Twitter by and confirmed by GK Films, which is producing the film along with MGM.

Reports emerged in March that Daisy Ridley was in talks to play the iconic raider, but according to Variety, Vikander was always the top choice.

I’m sure there’ll be a surge of bitching that Vikander doesn’t look the part, or she’ll ruin the franchise, or whatever, but I reckon she’ll crush it as Lara. She’s a fantastic actress by all accounts, and I will again point to the Oscar she won – They don’t just give those things away, y’know (ask Leo).

The Tomb Raider reboot doesn’t have a release date yet, but Roar Uthaug (The Wave, Escape) is confirmed to be directing, while Vikander is the only confirmed cast member so far.
