Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt RED has filed a trademark which may point to their next game, and it’s probably not what you were expecting.
NerdLeaks, spotted a trademark filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. Check out the logo below.
Gwent of course, was the fantastically in-depth card game that you could play in The Witcher 3 with almost every character you met.
I never cared for it much myself, but I know plenty of folk who got lost in collecting and battling with their Gwent cards.
A Gwent game wouldn’t be too much of a surprise, since we know that CD Projekt are showing something off at E3, and that it’s not Cyberpunk 2077 – they were even fairly coy when asked if it was anything to do with Witcher.
We also know that whatever they’re showing off at E3 will be a “new type of video game format previously unexplored by the studio”. Free-to-play Gwent? Mobile Gwent? It seems like a sure thing, to be honest.
The Witcher 3 recently bowed out with the excellent Blood and Wine expansion, which has been confirmed as the end of that franchise for the foreseeable future.
Once again, E3 is just around the corner so we’ll have to wait till then for final confirmation.
