Turtle Rock Studios, the team behind the outstanding Left 4 Dead games, are coming back with another zombie slaying romp. Basically, it sounds a hell of a lot like Left 4 Dead, and I’m more than okay with that.
Details on the game are pretty thin on the ground right now, but we do know the project is called Back 4 Blood, and will be published by Warner Bros. Note the 4 in the title. Half Life 3 confirmed? Sure, why not.
Beyond that, an official FAQ Turtle Rock made two things crystal clear. One is that it definitely isn’t Left 4 Dead 3, even if it shares a lot of the same DNA. The other is that there will be lots and lots of zombies to gun down.
The studio explained:
Back 4 Blood is our own brand new, original IP. You’ll be able to shoot up a lot of zombies like in Left 4 Dead, but there’s a whole lot of new stuff in Back 4 Blood which makes it unique.
We also know that the game is being developed as a premium AAA title for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and that other platforms “aren’t out of the question.” Hello, Nintendo Switch port.
The game will feature a campaign, but there are currently no plans for a PvP mode or battle royale of any kind, which is a refreshing change of pace, I have to say.
There’s no release date, trailers, or screens of any kind for Back 4 Blood yet, but based on the studio’s previous work I’d say we’ve every reason to be cautiously optimistic. This is certainly one to keep an eye on going forward.
