Looks Like Ubisoft Recycled A Familiar Map For Far Cry Primal

Far Cry Primal may have tried to shake up the Far Cry formula by taking us back to 10,000 BC, but it looks like Ubisoft recycled the old Far Cry 4 map to bring their new stone age adventure to life. Too much new stuff at once is probably bad for you I guess.

Gamepressure first noticed the striking similarities between the two maps by comparing the water reservoirs and rivers. Soon after, a source allegedly close to Ubisoft confirmed to Kotaku that the developers of Primal had indeed used Far Cry 4’s “heightmaps” (units of topography storage).

Obviously, there’s nothing wrong with reusing bits of a previous map, especially since the worlds of Primal and don’t look all that similar on the surface. There can’t be many of us who would have cried out in anger because the rivers look kind of the same.

You can check out both maps below and decide for yourself how alike they really are. At the end of the day, Far Cry abides by a pretty rigid Ubisoft formula, so I’m not exactly shocked that they’ve been recycling maps.

Apparently Ubisoft did the same thing with the 2013 spinoff Far Cry Blood Dragon. That map was based on Far Cry 3’s South Island. C’mon guys, change it up a little.
