Developers 2K Games announced via twitter that the franchise will be returning, with the third instalment set to appear on current-gen consoles. Newly formed Hanger 13 are confirmed to be developing.
After years of rumours and set backs, 2K’s cult favourite open-world gangster ’em up is finally going to get a third title. The announcement was made earlier today (Tuesday) on their twitter account, by sharing a new image for the game depicting four characters – three male and one female – backlit by car headlights. With Mafia II being set in the 1940’s and 50’s, the style of the cars would suggest a 70’s or 80’s time period for the title.
Mafia 3 has been in the works for years, with initial reports of production emerging as early as March 2012. 2K were also confident of Mafia 3 being a launch titled for PS4 and Xbox One, but had to postpone their plans after a slew of set-backs.
The game is set for a full reveal at this year’s Gamescom on the 5th of August in Germany, and no other information has yet been disclosed.
