Man Caught Smuggling A Crap Load Of Memory Cards Into China

An unidentified man was caught with (literally) thousands of memory cards taped to his body after he tried to smuggle them into mainland China from Hong Kong. Maybe he just really likes memory cards?

Our would-be smuggler was stopped at customs, and after a swift security check, it was discovered that he had a whopping 9,000 mobile phone memory cards upon his person. Apparently, they would have been worth up to 100,000 Yuan (around £10,000) if it weren’t for those meddling guards.

According to South China Morning Post, customs officials maintain that the smuggler tried to bribe the guards on duty with 50,000 Yuan (£5,000) when he was caught, so that he could get the his destination – Shenzhen city in Guangdong Province.

Weirdly enough, it was only a few hours earlier that a woman in her 80s was caught trying to do the exact same thing. She managed to get 10,000 memory cards around her waist and legs, which puts that other bloke to shame, really.

Custom officials at the border crossing apparently catch folk trying to smuggle electronic products into the mainland quite regularly. Electronic goods are cheaper in Hong Kong than they are across the border, see, and there’s always someone looking to strap a memory card or 9,000 to their legs in order to make a quick buck.
