Ubisoft Police in Paris have arrested a man who was found wearing two 12-inch mechanical wrist blades concealed beneath his jacket, apparently inspired by the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
According to a police report seen by local media outlet The Point, the 27-year-old, named as ‘Thomas G’ was first spotted by police near Saint-Lazare station in the French capital wearing sunglasses, a military style backpack, black hood, and a black mask.

G allegedly attempted to run from the police, but was apparently quickly caught and immobilized before officers removed his blades and placed him into custody. The man later explained during an interview with police that the homemade blades were “unstable” and attached with elastic tape.
Police had to take extra precautions when disarming him so as to avoid the weapon from triggering accidentally. Thankfully, it seems nobody was hurt during his arrest.
As The Point reports, G later told officers that he was a fan of cosplay. While he made no specific mention of Assassin’s Creed, fans of the Ubisoft franchise will be aware that the assassin characters in-game typically carry around retractable “hidden blades” which work in exactly the same way G’s devices.
Rebecca Rambar took to Twitter to share an image of the man’s blades. She wrote:

UbisoftIt’s currently unclear what G’s intentions might have been, though he was arrested shortly before the 27th Yellow Vest protest in the capital, which took place on Saturday (May 18).
The Paris marches were reported to be largely peaceful over the weekend, with some minor scuffles. There’s nothing to link G with the protests themselves, however.
