Everyone and their gran wants to be in Super Smash Bros. What was once a fighting game that consisted solely of Nintendo mascots has become a celebration of gaming icons from all corners of the industry.

The likes of Pac-Man, Sonic the Hedgehog, Snake, and even Cloud are now commonly seen fighting against Smash Bros mainstays like Link, Mario, and Pikachu. I never thought I’d see the day, but Nintendo’s beloved fighting franchise really is an open house at this point.

Given that we can no longer reasonably predict who is going to show in Super Smash Bros Ultimate as DLC, we might as well start dreaming big. You want Geralt of Rivia or Master Chief in the game? Who’s to say that won’t happen? Marvel characters like Spider-Man or Wolverine? It could just be a possibility.

In a recent interview with Game Informer, Marvel Games’ VP & creative director Bill Rosemann shared his own thoughts on the ideal of Marvel’s finest crossing over to get involved with Super Smash Bros Ultimate.

While it’s important to note that the final decision would likely lie with Nintendo and, presumably, the very top Marvel execs, Rosemann himself declared his own interest in a Marvel/Smash Bros mashup.

He said:

Well I mean, I can imagine anything. You know, Hawkeye standing next to Link, and both shooting some arrows… I mean anything *could* happen, but I’m not the person that makes decisions such as that.

Quite why Hawkeye was Rosemann’s go-to example for how awesome a Marvel crossover with Smash Bros would be is beyond me, but I guess ambition is the enemy of success.

Personally, I’d very much love to see an Iron Man that plays a little like Samus Aran, combining heavy melee attacks with long range weapons. Or just imagine a Captain America with a shield that works in the same way as Link’s boomerang?

Just a few years ago, I probably would have laughed in your face for suggesting Marvel characters in Super Smash Bros. Okay, I wouldn’t have laughed in your face because I’m quite shy, but I would definitely have laughed at you behind your back.

These days? Man, if Cloud and Mario can go toe-to-toe with Snake and Bayonetta, I see no reason why a Marvel hero couldn’t get in on the fun – even Hawkeye.

Plus, given that Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 is a Nintendo Switch exclusive, who knows what other deals Nintendo and Marvel have struck without us knowing?
