Marvel's Avengers Will Be At E3 2019, Square Enix ConfirmsMarvel

Square Enix has confirmed that its game based on Earth’s Mightiest Heroes – previously called The Avengers Project – is now officially known as Marvel’s Avengers, and will be shown during E3 2019.

This news comes via PlayAvengers on Twitter, a new account which seems to have been created for the purpose of communicating all matters regarding Square’s Avengers game. The first thing it tweeted (below), is an image showing off the classic Avengers logo, with the Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal, and Marvel logos underneath.

Why yes, I am massively excited, thank you for asking.

Marvel’s Avengers will be revealed during a special E3 event hosted by Square Enix, which is scheduled for June 10 at 2am in the UK. That unfortunately means that Marvel fans on our side of the pond will have to stay up past their bedtime to get an early look at the game.

Then again, that shouldn’t be too difficult for the kind of fans who were happy to go and watch the three-hour Avengers Endgame at midnight screenings, should it?

Not long after the initial reveal, Geoff Keighley followed up with a tweet of his own announcing that the game would get a further showcase Geoff Keighley during his own E3 Coliseum show on Tuesday, June 11.

Marvel’s Avengers was announced as The Avengers Project back in 2017, but we haven’t heard very much about it since then. We do know that it’s being by developed by Crystal Dynamics (Tomb Raider), with help from Eidos Montreal (Deus Ex Machina).

Here’s what Marvel had to say about the game in the initial reveal two years ago:

The Avengers project is being designed for gamers worldwide and will be packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise. Featuring a completely original story, it will introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come. More details on The Avengers project and other games will be announced in 2018.

Given the incredible quality of Insomniac Games’ sublime Marvel’s Spider-Man last year, it’s fair to say that Square Enix has a hell of a lot to live up to with Marvel’s Avengers. There’s no doubt in my mind that there are going to be plenty of eyes on this game in particular when E3 rolls around in… two weeks.

Two weeks. Good lord.
