Marvel’s Iron Man Announced During PlayStation Livestream

Sony has announced a brand new Iron Man game, exclusive to PlayStation 4. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like it’ll be the same kind of robust story driven experience that Marvel’s Spider-Man was, instead offering a less substantial – but still very cool looking – VR experience.

Marvel’s Iron Man will put players behind the mask of Stark’s enviable metal suit, as you take to the skies and blast away obstacles in a game that looks more like a first-person flight sum than a traditional superhero game. This makes sense of course, given Iron Man’s particular set of skills.

Marvel’s Iron Man is being developed by Camouflaj, who previously worked on Republique and its VR port. Camouflaj director Ryan Payton revealed that the team is working to create a narrative that’s “deeply personal” and “appropriately funny” as Tony confronts various ghosts from his past.

While details on gameplay are fairly scarce, the meat of the title seems to involve flying around using Iron Man’s energy blasts and fists to take on aerial threats. You’ll use the PSVR headset to scan your enviroment, and the move controllers to aim and ward off the attacks which can come in from all directions.

It basically looks like Ace Combat, but with a badass metal suit piloted by a sassy billionaire genius playboy philanthropist instead of a fighter jet piloted by a generic protagonist, so I’m definitely interested in picking it up.

Friday – Stark’s AI assistant – also appears in the game to offer mission support, advice, and invaluable tips such as “shoot that thing that’s shooting you.”

Marvel’s Iron Man will release sometime in 2019, and currently looks to be a PlayStation VR exclusive. Hopefully this paves the way for more Iron Man games in the future, as I’d love to see Tony get the same treatment Insomniac gave Spidey.
