There’s some pretty NSFW stuff ahead, just to warn you.
Subverse is a steamy new Mass Effect-inspired game that has already managed to become of the biggest video game projects ever on Kickstarter. Definitive proof, I think, that the internet consists of just two moods: angry and horny.
Developed by a relatively unknown studio called StudioFOW, Subverse has absolutely destroyed its £100,000 goal. At the time of writing, the game has just over £1.5m from around 51,000 backers. There’s 13 hours of funding left, but I think it’s safe to say mission accomplished at this point.
PC Gamer points out that of the 12,868 video game Kickstarters that have launched since 2012’s Double Fine Adventure, just 18 have been more successful than Subverse.
It’s also worth noting that these more successful projects tend to have some pretty big names behind them, whereas StudioFOW are apparently best known to people for their CG porn of video game characters.
I’ll say again; the internet is a thirsty place. In its own words, StudioFOW specialise in the “finest hentai.” As good a claim as any to hang your hat on, I guess.
Subverse is described by the developers as:
A tactical RPG/SHMUP hybrid that takes place in a fully explorable galaxy where you get to be the Captain of your very own ship which is crewed by the sexiest and deadliest waifus you can recruit.
While the game will apparently have some kind of story and the option to choose between grid-based or some admittedly pretty cool looking top down shoot ’em up style fights in space combat, the focus very much looks to be on having all of the sex with all of the aliens.
As StudioFOW ask on its Kickstarter; “Are we alone in this universe? What is out there? More importantly… can we bone it?” It looks like the answer to that question is “yes please.”
As if that wasn’t enough for you, the game’s female characters are being designed by “world-renowned art director and squidgirl-titty enthusiast Dzung Phung Dinh.” I’m sure you’ll also be thrilled to know that the studio is currently exploring options to get your in-game waifu pregnant.
According to the Kickstarter FAQ, all modules are currently playable in an alpha state, and the studio is doing its best to release the first chapter on Steam in “late Summer.” I guess you could say Subverse has made money hand over fist.
I’ll see myself out.
