Mass Effect Remasters ‘Easy Money’, But EA Won’t Make Them

If you’re hoping to see a remastered Mass Effect collection anytime soon, don’t hold your breath. EA executive Peter Moore has recently said it won’t happen, despite being easy money.

This decision is – at least in part – because EA don’t want to detract from the upcoming Mass Effect Andromeda, but Moore also revealed to IGN that the company probably won’t be remastering any games from its past, as it would rather look to the future.

Moore explained:

We’re a company that is focused on delivering for the future. I was asked a question once [about remasters and I said] it’s just not what we do. We’ve got incredibly talented dev studios around the world who are focused on delivering new IP, new experiences, [and] more and more live services. Can we make an easy buck on remastering Mass Effect? Yes. Have a thousand people asked me that? Yes, they have.

Moore added that the company just wants to move forward, and reiterated that ‘there’s a little thing called Mass Effect: Andromeda’ coming, and that ‘it’s gonna be magnificent’.

He continued:

There’s easy money to be made all over this industry. But the real focus should be on being player-first and focused on delivering new IP and new experiences and that’s where our real focus is.

The interviewer then pointed out that EA now sees itself as a player-first company, so if the fans want a Mass Effect remaster, shouldn’t that be something EA focuses on?

Moore acknowledged the demand, but claimed it’s not really as simple as all that. He also cited the fact that people want Skate 4 or a new Fight Night, but a 34 year old company can’t keep going back to the same few wells.

While we might not be revisiting the original games any time soon, Mass Effect Andromeda will be with us sometime between January and March 2017 (hopefully).
