Hot on the heels of a load of leaked PS4.5 details, new reports have come in that Microsoft are testing a variety of prototype Xbox devices.
A source apparently familiar with Microsoft’s plans for Xbox has told The Verge that some of the models the company are currently testing are modular ones that can be upgraded like a PC, which is definitely an interesting concept.
It’s not clear whether this would be an Xbox 1.5 or is simply the early stages of testing for the next generation of consoles. It should however, be noted that Xbox boss Phil Spencer recently told everyone not to expect an Xbox 1.5.
He said:
I’m not a big fan of Xbox One and a half. If we’re going to move forward, I want to move forward in big numbers. If we’re going to go forward with anything, like I said, I want it to be a really substantial change for people – an upgrade.
NeoGAF member ekim recently found new Federal Communications Commission filings that show Microsoft is experimenting with a new Xbox One wireless chip. An optional hardware upgrade? Time will tell.
