Xbox marketing boss Aaron Greenberg has been talking up the recently announced Xbox Scorpio console, referring to it as a ‘beast’.

The 4K ready machine will have 8 CPU cores, (the most powerful GPU ever put into a games console) and 6 teraflops of power – Greenberg might not be too far off the mark.

Greenberg said during Microsoft’s own E3 2016 coverage:

We’re building a beast. It’s gonna be the most powerful console ever made, and as a guy who was here when we built the original Xbox, that being such a powerful box, and we pioneered with Xbox Live, and some of those innovative games, it really feels like we’re getting back to our roots.

He went on to say that everyone over at Microsoft is pretty excited about Scorpio. Apparently, he’s ‘never seen morale this high’ at the company.

The Xbox Scorpio is currently scheduled for a rough ‘Holiday 2017’ release, but a new report suggests that Sony are gearing up to release their own 4K ready PlayStation 4 model by the end of 2016.

Still, the Xbox Scorpio has been called the ‘most powerful console ever made’, and the PS4K doesn’t seem like it’s gonna be challenging that statement.

Where the Xbox Scorpio runs at 6 teraflops, the PS4K reportedly brings 4.14 to the table. Clearly Microsoft are taking their time to bring us something with some real oomph under the hood.

Of course, it’s too soon to say for sure which console is gonna win this particular battle – but it’s sure to be a fight worth keeping an eye on.
