Microsoft have once again reminded everybody that they have all the pieces in places to make Xbox One cross platform play a reality – they’re just waiting on everybody else.
A few months ago, suggesting that PlayStation 4 and Xbox One could potentially work in unison and support online play across both consoles was madness – you’d be burned at the stake for even mentioning such a thing.
ID@Xbox Europe boss Agostino Simonetta told Eurogamer (as we already know) that Psyonix’s Rocket League could be the first game to support the PS4/Xbox One love in. Microsoft have everything in place to make it happen, but PlayStation continue to drag their feet. Clearly, they fear commitment.
Simonetta said:
Absolutely–we’re ready. Rocket League is the first game–and it is a heavily network-orientated game. Any title that wants to update their game to include cross-network play, any title that wants to launch soon and take advantage of that, we are ready.
Simonetta reiterated that Microsoft have invited any network that wants to take part, but like that kid at school who smelt like cat piss, it seems like nobody wants to come to their party.
Still, the door is open, and Simonetta remains optimistic:
Any title that wants to update their game to include cross-network play, any title that wants to launch soon and take advantage of that, we are ready.
Somebody better respond to Microsoft soon. This is getting kind of hard to watch.
