Modern Warfare Devs Return To The Call Of Duty Franchise In 2016

There’s a new Call of Duty game coming out this year. This is about as surprising as learning that there will still be seven days to a week in 2016. Still, Activision Blizzard are determined to have us on the back foot in some way, by announcing that developers Infinity Ward are returning to the franchise.

Now, you may remember that Infinity Ward made Modern Warfare, which everyone loved. But it’s also important to note that their last CoD game was Ghosts, which pretty much went unloved.

Activision have described the upcoming Call of Duty game as “innovative” (stop rolling your eyes at the back there), though we know nothing concrete about the new entry just yet.

Infinity Ward last worked on the series with Ghosts back in 2013, before Activision spread the development of the franchise across three separate studios – presumably so that we can get a new Call of Duty game every year until the last syllable of recorded time.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare came from Sledgehammer Studios in 2014, while 2015 saw Black Ops 3 from Treyarch. Infinity Ward’s 2016 effort will complete this three year development cycle, and then it’ll start all over again.

Next stop: Call of Duty Modern Ghost Super Future Warfare 22. Until the franchise stops crapping buckets of money all over Activision’s open mouth, don’t ever expect it to end.
