Rarely do things lie undiscovered in video games for more than a few minutes before somebody, somewhere finds it and slaps it up on YouTube for millions of people to have a look at.

Saying that, there are some secrets that remain hidden for ages, and in the case of this little gem, 20 bloody years. It’s only just been discovered that the original Mortal Kombat games had a hidden menu system that nobody ever found.

Internet secret-sleuths The Cutting Room Floor found the Ed Boon menus – named after the series’ creator – last year, and now YouTube channel YourMKArcadeSource has slapped it up in the aforementioned method for the world to see.

The secret menus include stuff like diagnostic tests, coin bookkeeping, character endings and even an item called “Hello”, which YourMKArcadeSource think might be a list of people Ed Boon wanted to say hi to.

If you happen to have a Mortal Kombat arcade cabinet kicking around, you can try the menus out yourself by entering the following secret codes. Oh, P1 means the player 1 button, and P2 means the player 2 button.

Mortal Kombat

P1 (5 times), P2 (10 times), P1 (2 times), P2 (1 time), P1 (2 times), P2 (3 times), P1 (4 times)

Mortal Kombat II

P1 (5 times), P2 (10 times), P1 (2 times), P2 (8 times), P1 (2 times)
