We haven’t even seen a trailer for Netflix’s live-action adaptation of The Witcher yet, but new reports have suggested the show has already been renewed for two more seasons – that’s a hell of a lot of confidence in a show that’s yet to air. 

The Witcher fansite Redanian Intelligence (who are generally very on the money when it comes to picking up accurate reports) claim that an insider with a “proven track record” has confirmed Netflix has so much faith in the Henry Cavill-fronted fantasy series that the streaming service has plans for it to run for at least three seasons.

When asked about the show on Twitter, DC insider KC Walsh, said he’d heard that The Witcher got the same deal as Netflix’s Sabrina and was renewed up to its third season from pretty much the word go.

While Walsh says he’s only heard about three seasons so far, he reckons there’s a strong possibility we’ll get more than that “considering the investment they are putting in the show and the need for IP outside of WB/Disney.”

Back in December, Walsh claimed that Netflix was incredibly happy with The Witcher, and suggested that “we could see multiple seasons greenlit before season one airs or shortly after. Meaning Cavill’s schedule could be full for a while and more evidence Superman is behind him “

Months later, Walsh’s claim was backed up by the blog Recapped, which itself reported on the casting of Anya Chalotra and Henry Cavill as Yennefer and Geralt long before anywhere else. All of which is to say it looks like Walsh knows what he’s on about when it comes to the show.

It’s worth noting that Redcapped also reported season two of The Witcher would begin filming in December 2019, so it’s likely that we’ll get confirmation of the renewal sooner rather than later – presumably at the special panel for The Witcher being held at San Diego Comic-Con this Friday (July 19).

I’d also imagine that we’ll get our first official trailer for the show at the same panel, along with a concrete release date for the first series. It’s currently rumoured to air on Netflix towards the end of the year., and will be made up of eight, hour-long episodes.

While that’s all fine and dandy, the most exciting news to come from The Witcher series so far was our first look at Geralt’s horse Roach, which was doing the rounds on social media earlier in the week. Roach such a good boy.
