The Crackdown games do a lot of things right, but they’re most at home when it comes to blowing shit up in the most spectacular manner possible. It seems that Crackdown 3 is set to continue this grand tradition, and take things further than ever before.
Microsoft Studios senior narrative designer Dave Mongan has shared some new details in a blog post titled “The Art & Science of Blowing Sh*t Up regarding the “world-changing destructive experience” promised in Crackdown 3.
A series of animated GIFS show off an early, in development version of the game, and they fully demonstrate the explosive possibilities on offer. Take a look.
We’ve got explosions that create a domino like effect, explosions that can spark and catch fire, and explosions strong enough to take down entire buildings. There are a lot of explosions, basically.
Mongan wrote:
In Crackdown 3, explosives take front-and-center when it comes to the destructible world we’re building for multiplayer, and for the open-world playset of campaign.
Whether you’re deploying a cluster grenade to disassemble a squad of mechs, or taking down a skybridge while another player runs across, or toppling a tower to create a path for your teammates to infiltrate the enemy’s stronghold–explosives and the explosive skill are a critical part of making every corner of the Crackdown world versatile and exciting.
Mongan ended his blog post by saying that Microsoft have no possible way of simulating what will happen when players are finally let loose on Crackdown 3’s destructible world. Sounds to me like there’s gonna be a whole lot of ways to wreck shit up.
Crackdown 3 doesn’t have a release date just yet, but it’s likely to be with us before the end of 2016.
