New Mortal Kombat Movie Still In The Works

Work continues on the new Mortal Kombat movie, but producer James Wan is keen to take his time so as not to sacrifice the quality of the project.

Obviously this is a reassuring sign, as movies that are rushed out the door to meet a release date are rarely (if ever) worth watching.

Wan directed the likes of Furious 7, The Conjuring, and Saw, so the man has some top credentials in terms of over the top action and crazy gore – two things Mortal Kombat is all about.

He joined Mortal Kombat as producer last year, and recently spoke to IGN about how the project is coming along:

It’s still cooking away. With that particular project, that’s a really cool property that I loved growing up as a kid. Besides the game, even the movies as well, I kind of enjoyed them for what they are.

Wan is, of course, referring to the ‘classic’ 1995 Mortal Kombat movie – while technically not a good film (by any stretch) it’s something of a guilty pleasure for many of us.

As previously mentioned, Wan also discussed the importance of taking things slow in order to get it right:

The key here is to try and do it right. I don’t want to rush into it. So right now, we’re just trying to take our time to make sure it’s heading in the right direction. I think that’s more important than trying to rush through it and pump up something that no one likes.

Currently, we don’t really know much about the film at all beyond Wan’s involvement and the fact that it’s being written in part by Oren Uziel, who also wrote the great Mortal Kombat: Legacy shorts that were released a few years back.

All I know is that if I don’t get to see someone’s spine ripped out through their neck, I’ll be asking for my money back.
