NintendoAnother new trailer has dropped for the snappily-titled Pokemon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution, and it goes heavy on the nostalgia. If you hadn’t already heard, the upcoming Poke-flick is a remake of the very first Pokemon movie.
Yeah you know, the one that made an entire generation cry their eyes out and teach us all about the importance of equality and acceptance. Heavy handed? Maybe it was, but it did the job. Check out the latest trailer for the remake below.
I have absolutely no idea why Rita Ora is the soundtrack to the trailer, but sure. I haven’t got anything against Rita Ora, to be clear, I just feel like it’s an odd choice (although I guess she did feature in Detective Pikachu). Beyond that, I like what I’m seeing – though there are those who still take issue with the “cheap” looking CG animation.
The new trailer shows off some of the scenes from the original movie, now gloriously recreated in 3D. I know some people have a problem with how the human characters look, but I honestly don’t mind it. It’s not as if Ash and the gang looked photorealistic to begin with, is it?
Whatever your opinion on the human characters and environments though, can we all agree that the Pokemon themselves look fantastic? I can’t wait to see the all-out war between the “real” Pokemon and Mewtwo’s clone army in its entirety in this new style.
Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution doesn’t have a release date in the West yet, but it’ll be hitting Japan on July 12, which actually coincides with the original film’s 20th anniversary in the West. Given that every animated Pokemon film tends to come out over here a few months after it launches in Japan, we can probably expect to see Mewtwo strike back in UK cinemas around September 2019.
Legendary PicturesIn other Mewtwo Strikes Back news, when the film lands in cinemas in Japan in just a few days, those who go along to see it will be able to nab reprints of the super-rare Ancient Mew card. While this promotion is currently only confirmed for Japanese screenings of the movie, I’m convinced/hopeful that the promotion will be made available around the world, as it was originally.
