New Star Wars Battlefront Offline Mode Detailed

By :

Star Wars Battlefront developer DICE has announced details of a new offline mode, and revealed when we can expect the Death Star DLC expansion to land.

The new offline mode isn’t the cinematic campaign we’ve all been crying out for (obviously). It’s called Skirmish, and it’ll be available for everyone on July 20.

Lead designer Dennis Brannvall said:

[Skirmish] offers players the option to play offline against bots in a solo mission or with a friend using co-op split screen (console only.) With multiple locations that span the galaxy, from the frozen planet of Hoth to the lava encrusted planet of Sullust, we hope Skirmish brings players a new way to enjoy Star Wars Battlefront.

The offline mode will have two difficulty options, and is available for Walker Assault and Fighter Squadron.

DICE will be also be holding more free in-game events and additional Hutt Contracts in the Summer, while ‘new weapons and log-in reward opportunities’ are also on the way.

Meanwhile, season pass holders can expect the Death Star expansion in September. This will introduce new maps, weapons, and Star Cards, but more importantly two new hero characters.

DICE describes one of these characters as ‘larger than life’ and suggests it’s something it knows players have been waiting for. Chewbacca or GTFO.

More information on the Death Star expansion (including, I assume, the reveal of the hero characters) will be coming during EA’s Star Wars Panel livestream on Saturday, July 16 at the Star Wars Celebration.

Star Wars Battlefront has been a massive success, having shipped 14 million copies. Unsurprisingly, a sequel is now on the way from DICE and Motive Studios.
