After months of rumours and speculation, Nintendo have finally unveiled the Nintendo Switch.
The announcement came through a YouTube video and confirmed many people’s speculations that it would indeed be a home/mobile console hybrid. The previously titled Nintendo NX will be a portable console with detachable controllers, will run on cartridges and can connect to your TV. Check out the release vid below.
The official blurb that comes with the Switch reads:
Introducing Nintendo Switch! In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system also enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose. The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles.
The video shows off the console’s portable and mutliplayer capabilities, as you can take it anywhere and instantly jump into multiplayer games with friends using the two controllers.
It’s also interesting to note that it looks like the console will use third party titles – something Nintendo have been very reluctant to do in the past. Games like Skyrim and NBA are being played alongside Splatoon and the hotly anticipated Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
The Nintendo Switch has a release window of March 2017, and the Japanese company tend to stick to their promises. More news to follow as it’s announced!
