No Man’s Sky director Sean Murray has revealed in a new interview that the possibility of paid DLC isn’t entirely off the table.
Murray told the Daily Star that he was ‘perhaps naive’ for previously suggesting that the open universe survival game would only get free updates after launch.
He explained:
Maybe in the future there’s some reason why we just couldn’t possibly afford to do a certain feature without charging for it.
No Man’s Sky first major (and free) update came as a Day One patch, bringing with it a number of tweaks and improvements, as well as expanding the overall size of the galaxies that make up the game.
Murray recently teased that another new patch is on the way, and should make fans ‘very happy’. It’s currently unclear what this update will include, but new features such as the ability to build bases and own space freighters has been suggested.
No Man’s Sky has proven deeply divisive among fans and critics since release, with many gamers complaining that the title is not at all what they were expecting.
For his part, Murray wrote a pre-release blog post to remind people that No Man’s Sky isn’t what people were making it out to be.
He wrote:
If you hoped for things like pvp multiplayer or city building, piloting freighters, or building civilizations… that isn’t what NMS is. Over time it might become some of those things through updates.
In other news, a dataminer recently uncovered a few interesting nuggets of info after rummaging through the game’s files, but didn’t manage to find any evidence of multiplayer.
