Perhaps the most deafening silence in video game history has finally come to an end, as Hello Games – the team behind No Man’s Sky – have (voluntarily) spoken out to announce an update for the game.
So then, Hello Games have launched a huge “Foundation Update” for the game, which introduces a heap of new stuff including the start of base building. It will also apparently act as a springboard for many future free patches. Hello Games’ head honcho Sean Murray announced it in a tweet:
Check out a video explaining below.
Other than the base building, the patch also introduces two new modes; Creative Mode which allows you to build said bases and basically just be a creative little adventurer, and Survival Mode which ramps up the difficulty and makes it harder to survive the cold depths of space.
The rest of the features are too numerous to list here but interested parties should head over to the developer’s website for a full break-down.
No Man’s Sky launched in August and ended up being a step-by-step clusterfuck of how not run a video game marketing campaign. Many will argue that this “Foundation Update” is what the game should have been in the first place, not a tag on some two months down the line.
It’s not known whether this will hold the interest of the dwindling numbers still playing the game, but at least it’s a step in the right direction. Whether it’s a small step or a giant leap, also remains to be seen.
