No Man’s Sky is not exactly the game a lot of people were expecting. While many of us are happily exploring the universe, it would seem many more are exploring refund options.
In light of this, there have been a number of rumours and reports flying around the internet, claiming that players can get a refund through Steam in instances where the service would not normally grant one.
A Reddit post recently detailed how one might get a refund from Steam, even if they’ve already spent more than two hours with No Man’s Sky – this is, of course, directly against the Steam refund policy.
There have been similar refund claims around Amazon and the PSN, despite (once again) being very much in contrast to the normal rules.
As if in response, Steam has now put a message directly on the No Man’s Sky page.
It reads:
The standard Steam refund policy applies to No Man’s Sky. There are no special exemptions available. Click here for more detail on the Steam refund policy.
The linked page then takes you to an explanation of the standard Steam refund policy, which has been in place for little over a year.
The general rule of the refund policy is that you can claim back within 14 days of purchase and you’ve played the game in question for no more than two hours.
Obviously, two hours should give gamers plenty of time to work out if a game like No Man’s Sky would run on their PC or not.
Valve does state that exceptions can be made, and that the company will always look into a case.
However, I don’t think a deluge of people complaining that they’ve played No Man’s Sky for 50 hours and now they’re bored is quite gonna cut it.
