Blizzard must be having a pretty huge party right about now, after they released some astounding figures from the Overwatch beta.
Apparently, the beta attracted 9.7 million people world wide to play the game over 5 days. Over said 5 days, it’s estimated that players racked up a mind-bending 81 million hours worth of gameplay. Wow. These stats have officially made it Blizzard’s biggest open beta in history.
Blizzard CEO and cofounder Mike Morhaime has spoken about the success:
We’re thrilled that such an incredible number of players from around the globe got a chance to check out Overwatch during the open beta. Our mission was to make sure as many console and PC gamers as possible could experience the full game ahead of its launch – the response was overwhelming, and we hope that everyone had a blast.
Overwatch will launch worldwide on May 24th, and if the beta was anything to go by, it’s going to be extremely popular.
