Have you ever been playing the game of your life, only to have your internet connection cut out halfway through? Now imagine that happens to you in Overwatch, and Blizzard punish you for it.
It seems harsh, but this is the way things have been going since Overwatch’s Competitive Play mode rolled out last week. Thankfully, Blizzard has responded, saying a fix should be coming soon.
At least, that’s the theory, as it seems that many players are still receiving the penalty despite reconnecting. This can effect Skill Ratings or result in a loss, even if the player wins a match – not ideal for competitive play.
Director Jeff Kaplan wrote on the Blizzard forums that there are ‘some fixes coming (hopefully) next week.’ He didn’t go into any more detail as to the cause of the problem.
While we wait for Blizzard to sort out these problems with a new patch, there’s another detail you might have missed in the most recent update.
A touching tribute was included to Overwatch fan Hongyu Wu, who tragically died one day before the game launched. Blizzard ensured he was immortalized through a special message that reads “heroes never die”.
In the meantime, if you’re interested about jumping into Overwatch competitive play but haven’t yet, I’d just wait for the patch.
