Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan recently detailed the delights of an upcoming Competitive Play mode, and the cool cosmetic rewards you can get from playing it.
Exclusive sprays and player icons are all well and good, but it’s the customised golden gun system that gifts your characters with shiny new weapons that really has me excited.
Images of these weapons have turned up early, thanks to a Korean Public Test Realm – let’s dive in, shall we?
Mmmmm, shiny. That’s just a small sampling of the lovely new Overwatch bling on offer – you can find a full gallery over at MasterOverwatch.
It’s still not entirely clear how you’re meant to unlock these weapons, but I would assume it involves getting to a certain rank on the Competitive Mode with specific characters.
Here’s what Kaplan had to say on the matter:
The highest-skilled players will be able to unlock that stuff way sooner than anybody else. And there will also be some exclusive, other cosmetic rewards that only the highest-skilled players can get–that nobody else can get.
So I guess if you want a gold gun, you have to git gud fast. I’ll just be here pretending that I always liked my stupid normal weapons better, because I suffer from a severe case of sucking at Overwatch.
In addition to the new Competitive Play mode, Blizzard are also working hard to bring new characters and maps to the game. Stay tuned for more details on those.
In other Overwatch news, the game managed to become the fastest selling console game the company has ever made, in its first week. Impressive.
