Shaggy, the cowardly detective of Scooby Doo fame who definitely has at least one bag of kush stashed somewhere in the Mystery Machine, has become something of a meme in recent weeks.
This new wave of Shaggy inspired internet content depicts him not as a humble man with a penchant for sandwiches, but an all powerful God capable of terrifying acts of both good and evil.
I honestly don’t know how this meme started but I kind of love it. Take a look at a few examples just below:
Shaggy’s newfound Godhood has now inspired the internet, in its infinite wisdom, to rally around a noble cause and petition to get the beloved cartoon character in Mortal Kombat 11 as a playable character. Zoinks.
Parody site WokenNews first created the Change.org petition to add Shaggy to Mortal Kombat 11. At the time of writing, it’s less than 10,000 signatures away from its 50,000 goal. Truly, Shaggy has made his will known.

The reason we don’t tend to see characters from other games or media show up in Mortal Kombat is that the studios who own the rights to said characters don’t tend to want to see their creations getting horribly murdered in a famously brutal video game franchise.
This is why you’ll only ever really see the likes of Jason Voorhees of Kratos guest in a Mortal Kombat game – these are characters who are already known for their brutalism.
I’d imagine Warner Bros wouldn’t be too cool with Shaggy showing up to get his arms ripped off by Scorpion, but then they do own the rights to both Scooby Doo and Mortal Kombat, so they’re uniquely placed to make it happen.
