Have you ever finished a game of Tekken and thrown your controller on the ground in anger, furious that it’s yet another fighting game that refuses to focus on the one thing that really matters; pigeons?
If so, you’re not alone (you massive weirdo). Stories Untold developer NoCode has been busy prototyping a brave new kind of fighting game. It’s called Pekken, and if you hadn’t already guessed, it’s a pigeon fighting game.
Sigh.

Pekken essentially looks like your standard PS1-era 2D fighter, but the main characters are pigeons. Remember that. The pigeon aspect of this entire thing is what provides the humorous drive behind this entire piece, so DON’T FORGET THAT IT’S A GAME ABOUT FIGHTING PIGEONS.
Anyway, McKellan gave Pekken its grand debut on Twitter, saying:

In the rough footage provided, we see two pigeons “Jackie Bird” and “Walter Peck” go up against each other. It’s a flurry of feather, beak, and wing, as pigeons look on in the background and cheer (a nice touch).
There’s even a slow motion KO, because even a fighting game about pigeons has to observe the old ways.
If the above footage has left you wanting more pigeon brawler action, the good news is that McKellan will turn Pekken into a fully fledged game if his initial video gets 10,000 retweets.
At the time of writing, the tweet is at 14,174 likes and 5,321 retweets, so Pekken is over halfway to becoming a terrifying reality, though McKellan is currently gearing up to release sci-fi thriller Observation.

Hopefully if the internet can make this one happen, NoCode will expand the roster beyond that of simple pigeons. I’m well into the idea of seeing a blue tit take on a heron. And just imagine waiting for the game changing robin DLC to finally drop.
